We are high school seniors converting a car to electric power for our senior project. The idea first came to Ben in study hall, after he had watched a few of Ben Nelson's Electric Metro videos. We immediately decided that, although ambitious, this would be our senior project. We bought a Toyota Corolla from Mr. Joyce, our history teacher, and got to work. Although the parts are expensive (batteries, motor, controller, and car) we are buying almost all of them used to save money and reduce environmental impact. Our goal is to transform the Corolla into a short-range electric vehicle capable of transporting people and goods without relying on fossil fuels. We envision a car able to travel at least 12 miles, perfect for running errands. The car must reach at least 35 miles per hour and meet all public roadway regulations. We hope you enjoy watching the progress!
